She was 2 CONC raised by this Aunt and Un le until her marriage in 1920. She married 2 CONC Wilfred H. Williams in the Salt Lake Temple on January 14, 1920. Soon 2 CONC after their marriage they moved to Heyburn, Idaho, where they lived for 2 CONC five years and during that time three children were born to them, Dora, 2 CONC Doris and Vada. They then moved to Salt lake City for two years where 2 CONC Clyde was born. In 1927 they moved to Bountiful where Day and Robert were 2 CONC born. Whe lived in Bountiful the remainder of her life. She had a stroke 2 CONC in 1958 which lift her partially paralyzed and she was a semi-invalid 2 CONC until the time of her death, January 14, 1962." 2 CONT 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: By W.K. Williams: Mary Ardell Fullmer, was born 13 November 2 CONC 1901 in Diamond, Juab, Utah, a little mining town located between Mammoth 2 CONC and Eureka, Utah. The town itself has been deserted for some time and 2 CONC exists only in the older records and memories of its one-time 2 CONC inhabitants. Sidney Tanner Fullmer, her father, was working as a miner 2 CONC in the silver mines that existed at the time, and he continued to do so 2 CONC for the next three or four years. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: After Sidney was laid off at the mines, the family moved to 2 CONC Spanish Fork, Utah, where her mother, Mary Emma Larsen, had several 2 CONC relatives. They rented a home there. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: Ardell started Kindergarten there in Spanish Fork in the Fall 2 CONC of 1907, but her memories of her school days there were very brief as the 2 CONC family moved again the next Spring to a farm in Mapleton. She started 2 CONC the first grade in Mapleton, which required that she walk three miles to 2 CONC and from school. She was able to go to the Jefferson School in 2 CONC Springville for the second grade. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: While living in Mapleton, Ardell's mother died of heart 2 CONC trouble at the age of 31 years. It was mid-winter, 15 February 1910, and 2 CONC they buried her in the Spanish Fork City Cemetery where they had buried 2 CONC Ardell's sister, Minnie Irene Fullmer, on 1 July 1907. It was at this 2 CONC funeral, and later at the funeral of her father, that they sang the 2 CONC beautiful Mormon hymn "O My Father". Many years were to go by, even 2 CONC after her children had been born, before she could hear this song without 2 CONC causing tears to come to her eyes. Ardell was only eight years old when 2 CONC her mother died. After a short period, her father, Sid Fullmer, took 2 CONC Ardell and her brother John up to his sister, "Aunt Em", in Salt Lake 2 CONC City, where she ran a boarding house. They stayed in Salt Lake City for 2 CONC the next nine months. However, Sid found the boarding house was not the 2 CONC best atmosphere in which to raise small children, so he took the children 2 CONC back to Springville to the old Fullmer pioneer family home and moved in 2 CONC with Delbert Fullmer, his half brother. Sid and Delbert had bought a 2 CONC fairly large piece of bottom land farther up the creek that they were 2 CONC going to develop together. In the meantime, Sid found work in a mine on 2 CONC the side of the mountain between Provo and Springville. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: The family had barely time to settle down (just two months) 2 CONC when Ardell's father was seriously hurt in a mine accident. Sid was 2 CONC working as a miner sinking a shaft into the mountain east of the Ironton 2 CONC Iron Works and had just stepped out of the mine portal when a large rock 2 CONC came rolling down the mountain and caught him in the middle of the back. 2 CONC His back was broken and both kidneys were crushed. He was crippled for 2 CONC the rest of his life. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: The next eight years were to prove hard ones for the little 2 CONC family. The settlement with Jesse Knight (the mine owner) was for about 2 CONC $300.00, which barely paid for the hospital bill. Dell and Nina let them 2 CONC stay with them on the old Fullmer family farm in the creek bottom in East 2 CONC Springville. Sidney used to drag himself up and down the rows in an 2 CONC attempt to help with the farming, but he could never hold a job again and 2 CONC lived in perpetual pain. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: When Delbert brought his 17-year old bride, Jonene Peterson, 2 CONC home, there were already three of his sisters needing her care who were 2 CONC almost as old as she was. Fortunately, Aunt "Nena" had promised 2 CONC Delbert's mother, Agatha, on her death bed, that she would take care of 2 CONC the family. This young girl from Iceland fulfilled her promise and then 2 CONC went on to have 15 children of her own. Ardell (and John) had to help 2 CONC with the housework and work in the fields during the Summer. She also 2 CONC helped with the "little" Fullmers that were coming along and many of her 2 CONC young cousins looked to her as their "part time" mother. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: Ardell continued her schooling at Washington School, 2 CONC Springville Junior High School, and finally Springville High School. She 2 CONC was forced to leave High School at the end of the ninth grade and go to 2 CONC work to help with the family finances. She did housework at different 2 CONC homes and, of course, helped out on the farm with the many chores. Her 2 CONC children remember her saying that Uncle Dell used to shoot a deer during 2 CONC the Winter months, but there were evenings when all there was to eat were 2 CONC peaches that had been bottled the summer before. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: Ardell first met her husband-to-be, Wilfred Henry Williams, 2 CONC while attending church. Wilfred was five years older than Ardell, had 2 CONC very red hair, a complete complement of freckles to go with it, and was 2 CONC very shy. The two of them dated each other for the next four years 2 CONC until Ardell was out of High School and old enough to be married. During 2 CONC those years, Ardell, Wilfred, Lola Brown, and Leo Weight Leo often made 2 CONC up a foursome. Leo was on the basketball team and his coach had ruled 2 CONC that none of the players could come to the games with a girl, but that 2 CONC they could go home with a girl. So, Ardell and Lola would go to the 2 CONC games with Wilfred and then have Leo join them after the game. That way 2 CONC they could have a date together and still obey the coach's rules. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: The courtship between Ardell and Wilfred continued after his 2 CONC graduation from High School (he didn't graduate until he was 21) and 2 CONC they corresponded while he was away from Springville working on the 2 CONC survey. His induction into the Army brought things to a head, however, 2 CONC and he proposed to Ardell the night before he entrained for Camp Kearny. 2 CONC Of course, she said "Yes". Later, he sent her an engagement ring with a 2 CONC ruby in it from Camp Kearny while undergoing his army training. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: Ardell's father died on 12 March 1919 but not before he had 2 CONC given his consent and blessing to her marriage to Wilfred. The two of 2 CONC them were married on 14 January 1920 in the Salt Lake Temple. She was 2 CONC only 18 years old when this happened. It was a cold winter day when the 2 CONC marriage took place and her children remember her telling them how the 2 CONC two of them stopped as they left the Temple and Wilfred slipped a wedding 2 CONC ring on her finger. He had forgotten to do it earlier when they were 2 CONC married. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: After their marriage, they moved with their few possessions to 2 CONC Burley, Idaho, where her new husband rented 60 acres of land. The 2 CONC Minidoka Irrigation Project was just coming to fruition and it was 2 CONC considered a land of promise. The twins, Dora and Doris, and their 2 CONC sister Vada, were all born there in Idaho in the ensuing years. In the 2 CONC Summer of 1925, Wilfred raised a bumper crop of potatoes only to find at 2 CONC the end of the season (due to falling prices) that he was 40 dollars 2 CONC further in debt than when the Summer started, and all the Summer's work 2 CONC had been for naught. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: It was just before Ardell turned 19 that the twins, Dora and 2 CONC Doris, were born prematurely. Their births took place at the farm on 2 CONC October 31, 1920, with a mid-wife assisting. They weighed 4 and 4 ½ 2 CONC pounds apiece and were considered very small for those days. Dora 2 CONC wasn't expected to live, so Bishop Smith from the local Ward assisted 2 CONC Wilfred in administering to her. When the Doctor finally did get there, 2 CONC everything was all over. Both Ardell and Wilfred were working in the 2 CONC Mutual in the Church at the time, so they would bundle the children up 2 CONC and put them and some pillows and blankets into a large laundry basket, 2 CONC and carry them to church in it. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: The family moved back to Salt Lake City where Clyde was born 2 CONC in 1926 in a little home at 6th South and 2nd East. The story is told in 2 CONC the family that as the doctor was entering the home, grandmother Williams 2 CONC told Dora and Doris that he was bringing their new brother in his little 2 CONC black bag. The story also tells about the lecture the Doctor gave to 2 CONC grandmother Williams when he heard about it. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: While in Salt Lake City, Wilfred began working for William R. 2 CONC Smith, who had a brokerage business along with a flour mill and feed 2 CONC business in Bountiful. The family moved to Bountiful in 1927 and rented 2 CONC a home a half block west of main street on Fifth South street. Another 2 CONC son, Kay, was born there in 1930. His brother, Clyde, remembered going 2 CONC to the movies with his older sisters the afternoon Kay made his 2 CONC appearance into the world, and how surprised he was when they got home 2 CONC (he was 4 ½ years old at the time). The youngest child, Bob, was born 2 CONC in 1935 after the family had moved to 576 South Main Street in Bountiful. 2 CONC He proved to be a problem and a great drain on Ardell's strength for the 2 CONC rest of her life as he was mentally impaired. He required a great deal 2 CONC of care, which she gave him with no thought of herself. 2 CONT 2 CONT Ardell lived for her family. She was thrilled to see all of her children 2 CONC married (with the exception of Bobby). Most of them were married for 2 CONC time and eternity in the Temple, and she was able to be present at three 2 CONC of these marriages. She was similarly thrilled when two of them - Clyde 2 CONC and Kay - graduated from the University of Utah. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: After his wife died in 1945, Wilfred's father, Henry Williams, 2 CONC came to live with them and stayed there nearly the rest of his life. 2 CONC This, of course, added to Ardell's heavy work load, but she did not 2 CONC hesitate in welcoming her father-in-law into her home. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: Her heart became increasingly worse throughout the last 2 CONC fifteen years of her life and she was bedfast the last three years as a 2 CONC result of several strokes. She kept her faculties and good humor 2 CONC throughout these years, however, and she enjoyed her family and 2 CONC grandchildren even as they enjoyed her. Her husband, Wilfred, worked 2 CONC each day as the Bountiful City Recorder and then helped take care of 2 CONC Ardell at night. It is certain that he could not have averaged more than 2 CONC two or three hours of uninterrupted sleep a night for those three years. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: Eventually, Ardell's heart gave out. She joined her parents 2 CONC and her brother and sister who had preceded her in death on the 14th Day 2 CONC of January, 1962 (her 42nd wedding anniversary). She was buried, as was 2 CONC her wish, in the Provo City Cemetery, Provo, Utah. She had a hard but 2 CONC happy life here on earth and was loved and respected by all who knew her. 2 CONC She was devoted to her family and took great pride in their 2 CONC accomplishments. 1 CHAN 2 DATE 3 JAN 2002 3 TIME 12:57:56 1 OBJE 2 FORM jpg 2 FILE Williams\fullmer_maryardell.jpg 2 TITL 2 NOTE Mary Ardell Fullmer 2 _SCBK Y 2 _PRIM Y 2 _TYPE PHOTO 2 _SSHOW Y 3 _STIME 0.0 0 @I57@ INDI 1 NAME Robert John /Williams/ 1 SEX M 1 BIRT 2 DATE 7 OCT 1935 2 PLAC Salt Lake City,,Utah 1 DEAT 2 DATE 16 MAY 1981 2 PLAC Salt Lake City,,Utah 1 BURI 2 DATE 20 MAY 1981 2 PLAC Provo Cemetary,Provo,Utah 1 AFN 7Q95-6D 1 BAPL 2 DATE 26 MAR 1949 1 FAMC @F59@ 1 SLGC 2 FAMC @F59@ 2 STAT BIC 1 CHAN 2 DATE 17 FEB 2001 3 TIME 08:59:47 0 @I58@ INDI 1 NAME Clyde Henry /Williams/ 1 SEX M 1 BIRT 2 DATE 2 MAY 1926 2 PLAC Salt Lake City,,Utah 1 DEAT 2 DATE 26 DEC 1975 1 BURI 2 DATE 30 DEC 1975 2 PLAC Provo Cemetary,Provo,Utah 1 AFN 7Q95-42 1 BAPL 2 DATE 3 JUN 1934 1 ENDL 2 DATE 15 SEP 1949 2 TEMP SL 1 FAMS @F58@ 1 FAMC @F59@ 1 SLGC 2 FAMC @F59@ 2 STAT BIC 1 CHAN 2 DATE 17 FEB 2001 3 TIME 08:59:47 0 @I59@ INDI 1 NAME Vada /Williams/ 1 SEX F 1 BIRT 2 DATE 24 MAR 1923 2 PLAC Heyburn,Mndk,Idaho 1 AFN 7Q95-3V 1 BAPL 2 DATE 29 MAR 1931 1 FAMS @F57@ 1 FAMC @F59@ 1 SLGC 2 FAMC @F59@ 2 STAT BIC 1 CHAN 2 DATE 17 FEB 2001 3 TIME 08:59:47 0 @I60@ INDI 1 NAME Hannah /Dodge/ 1 SEX F 1 BIRT 2 DATE JUL 1642 2 PLAC Salem,,Mass 1 DEAT 2 DATE 2 JAN 1688 2 PLAC Beverly,,Mass 1 FAMS @F491@ 1 FAMC @F968@ 1 CHAN 2 DATE 23 FEB 2001 3 TIME 22:50:20 0 @I61@ INDI 1 NAME Doris /Williams/ 2 NSFX (TWIN) 1 TITL (TWIN) 1 SEX F 1 BIRT 2 DATE 31 OCT 1920 2 PLAC Heyburn,Mndk,Idaho 1 AFN 7Q95-2P 1 BAPL 2 DATE 6 JAN 1929 1 FAMS @F56@ 1 FAMC @F59@ 1 SLGC 2 FAMC @F59@ 2 STAT BIC 1 CHAN 2 DATE 17 FEB 2001 3 TIME 08:59:47 0 @I62@ INDI 1 NAME Edmund Gail /Plummer/ 1 SEX M 1 BIRT 2 DATE 14 MAY 1899 2 PLAC Daniel,(Daniel),Utah,UT 1 DEAT 2 DATE 23 OCT 1964 2 PLAC Salt Lake City,Salt Lake,UT 1 BURI 2 PLAC Heber,Wasatch,UT 1 AFN 3FC6-D1 1 BAPL 2 DATE 31 AUG 1907 1 ENDL 2 DATE 18 SEP 1929 1 FAMS @F17@ 1 FAMC @F20@ 1 SLGC 2 FAMC @F20@ 2 DATE 8 APR 1908 2 TEMP SL 1 CHAN 2 DATE 17 FEB 2001 3 TIME 08:58:47 1 OBJE 2 FORM jpg 2 FILE Williams\plummer_edmondgail_young1.jpg 2 TITL teenager 2 NOTE 2 _SCBK Y 2 _PRIM N 2 _TYPE PHOTO 2 _SSHOW Y 3 _STIME 0.0 1 OBJE 2 FORM jpg 2 FILE Williams\plummer_edmondgail_young2.jpg 2 TITL young adult 2 NOTE 2 _SCBK Y 2 _PRIM N 2 _TYPE PHOTO 2 _SSHOW Y 3 _STIME 0.0 1 OBJE 2 FORM jpg 2 FILE Williams\plummer_edmondgail_grad.jpg 2 TITL graduation 2 NOTE 2 _SCBK Y 2 _PRIM N 2 _TYPE PHOTO 2 _SSHOW Y 3 _STIME 0.0 1 OBJE 2 FORM jpg 2 FILE Williams\plummer_edmondgail_couple.jpg 2 TITL gail and elva, 1930s 2 NOTE giving produce from the Plummer Acre to the neighbors 2 _SCBK Y 2 _PRIM N 2 _TYPE PHOTO 2 _SSHOW Y 3 _STIME 0.0 1 OBJE 2 FORM jpg 2 FILE Williams\plummer_edmondgail_fam1939.jpg 2 TITL family 1939 2 NOTE 2 _SCBK Y 2 _PRIM N 2 _TYPE PHOTO 2 _SSHOW Y 3 _STIME 0.0 1 OBJE 2 FORM jpg 2 FILE Williams\plummer_edmondgail_older.jpg 2 TITL in his 60s 2 NOTE 2 _SCBK Y 2 _PRIM Y 2 _TYPE PHOTO 2 _SSHOW Y 3 _STIME 0.0 1 OBJE 2 FORM jpg 2 FILE Williams\plummer_edmondgail_portrait.jpg 2 TITL Portrait by Alvin Gittens, in SLC library 2 NOTE 2 _SCBK Y 2 _PRIM N 2 _TYPE PHOTO 2 _SSHOW Y 3 _STIME 0.0 1 OBJE 2 FORM wav 2 FILE C:\WINDOWS\Profiles\Tracy\My Documents\My Music\gail_plummer_sam_mcgee.wav 2 TITL The Cremation of Sam McGee 2 NOTE 60 second clip 2 _SCBK N 2 _PRIM N 2 _TYPE SOUND 2 _SSHOW N 0 @I63@ INDI 1 NAME Albert Edward /Allgood/ 1 SEX M 1 FAMS @F440@ 1 CHAN 2 DATE 23 FEB 2001 3 TIME 23:32:38 0 @I64@ INDI 1 NAME Thomas Gail /Plummer/ 1 SEX M 1 AFN 7G62-VK 1 FAMS @F32@ 1 FAMC @F17@ 1 CHAN 2 DATE 17 FEB 2001 3 TIME 08:59:44 0 @I65@ INDI 1 NAME Henry /Williams/ 1 SEX M 1 BIRT 2 DATE 19 DEC 1864 2 PLAC Birkinhead,Lanc.,Eng.,England 1 DEAT 2 DATE 13 MAY 1957 2 PLAC Salt Lake City,S.L.,Utah 1 BURI 2 DATE 16 MAY 1957 2 PLAC Provo City Cemet,Provo,Utah,UT 1 AFN 335Z-71 1 BAPL 2 DATE 20 APR 1875 1 ENDL 2 DATE 26 NOV 1890 2 TEMP MT 1 FAMS @F18@ 1 FAMC @F22@ 1 SLGC 2 FAMC @F22@ 2 DATE 31 MAR 1947 2 TEMP SL 1 NOTE BIOGRAPHY: Notes by Elva Plummer: Henry Williams was born the 19th day of 2 CONC December 1864 in Birkenhead, near Liverpool, England. When he had finished the fifth 2 CONC grade he quit school and worked full time in the mills. 2 CONT He was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 2 CONC in 1872 at the age of eight. Emily, his sister, in writing of their early 2 CONC life said, she could remember their home in Birkenhead as a six room 2 CONC brick home a few blocks from the beach. 2 CONT In 1881, when Henry was sixteen, he came to Utah with his parents. 2 CONC They came on a half sail and half steam ship. during the ocean journey a 2 CONC heavy storm broke the drive shaft and the ship drifted two hundred miles 2 CONC back toward England before the shaft was repaired. The ship was tossed 2 CONC about in the turbulent waters and the passengers had to be tied in their 2 CONC bunks to protect them. They reached Utah in May and were met by Emily who 2 CONC had come to Utah the previous year and had worked in the Provo Woolen 2 CONC Mills to get money enough to bring her parents and brother to Utah. She 2 CONC had a home for them in Provo, Utah. Here Henry found employment at the 2 CONC Provo Wollen Mills at much the same work he had done in his 2 CONC apprenticeship in the cotton spinning mills in England. 2 CONT Henry married Ann Guest Mosley the 26th of November, 1890. They had 2 CONC one child, Wilfred Henry, born the 27th of September 1896 in Provo, Utah. 2 CONC When Wilfred was about two years old his father signed up for some land 2 CONC to homestead on the eastern slopes of Mt. Nebo, south of Thistle, Utah. 2 CONC He cleared ten acres, cut cedar posts, and built a barbed wire fence 2 CONC around it and planted it in wheat. He dug a ditch around the mountain 2 CONC side for one mile to get water to his land. At this time the recording of 2 CONC homestead rights was carelessly done and not kept up to date. When Will 2 CONC Knight, and influential man of Provo, filed for this land it was given 2 CONC him and Henry was froced to leave. They moved to Springville and stayed 2 CONC with his mother and step-father James Brailsford. After the death of 2 CONC Henry's mother in 1901, Ann Guest Mosley took care of James Brailsford 2 CONC until he died. 2 CONT In 1920 or 21 Henry and his wife moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. Henry 2 CONC was a hard worker, a respected citizen, and always active in the church. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: By W.K. Williams: Henry Williams was born the 19th Day of 2 CONC December, 1864, in Birkenhead, near Liverpool, England. He was the fifth 2 CONC of six children born to John Williams and Mary Goddard, the others being 2 CONC William Edward, John, Diana, Emily, and George. 2 CONT The home in Birkenhead, where he was raised, was a six-room brick house 2 CONC located only a few blocks from the beach. From the time he was six years 2 CONC old, Henry attended school for only one half day. He worked the balance 2 CONC of the day in the local cotton spinning mill. This lasted until the 2 CONC fifth grade, when he quit school and started working full time in the 2 CONC mill. He served his apprenticeship and became a cotton spinner. In the 2 CONC course of his employment, he spun into yarn and thread many bales of 2 CONC American cotton. The mill machinery was operated by rope belts running 2 CONC over shiv pulleys. As a result, Henry learned to splice a rope so well 2 CONC that others could not tell where the splice was located. 2 CONT His mother, Mary Goddard, had joined The Church of Jesus Christ of 2 CONC Latter-day Saints while a teenager, and his father, himself, and three 2 CONC other siblings - William, Emily, and George - subsequently joined the 2 CONC Church while in England. Henry was baptized in 1872 at the age of eight. 2 CONC In 1881, when Henry was just sixteen, he emigrated to Utah together with 2 CONC his parents. His sister, Emily, had emigrated to Utah the year 2 CONC previously, saved her money, and sent it to her parents so that they and 2 CONC Henry could join her in Zion. The other children, for reasons we do not 2 CONC know, elected to stay in England. 2 CONT Henry left Liverpool on a half sail/half steam ship. During the ocean 2 CONC voyage, a heavy storm broke the drive shaft and the ship drifted two 2 CONC hundred miles back towards England before the shaft was repaired. The 2 CONC ship was badly tossed about in the turbulent waters with the result that 2 CONC the Captain ordered that the passengers be securely tied to their bunks 2 CONC so as to help protect them from injury. Apparently, Henry was the only 2 CONC person on the ship who was able to make his way to the Cooks Galley so as 2 CONC to get water and a little broth for the sick passengers. 2 CONT They ship finally landed in New York City and the Williams family boarded 2 CONC a train for the West. Somewhere around Kansas, their money ran out. 2 CONC After pooling their cash, it was found that one member of the family 2 CONC would have to leave the train. Henry's father, John Williams, 2 CONC volunteered to do so, but the missionaries who were accompanying them 2 CONC took up a collection from the other passengers and collected enough 2 CONC money to pay his fare to Ogden, Utah. 2 CONT They were met in Utah by Emily, who boarded their train in Woods Cross 2 CONC (i.e., West Bountiful) so that she could travel the remaining ten miles 2 CONC with them into Salt Lake City. She had been working at the Utah Woolen 2 CONC Mills in Provo, Utah, so as to earn enough money to bring her parents to 2 CONC Utah, and she had them move into her home with her in Provo. 2 CONC Subsequently, Henry and his father were also able to secure employment at 2 CONC the Provo Woolen Mills doing much the same work for which Henry had 2 CONC served his apprenticeship in the cotton spinning mills in England. 2 CONT While living in Provo and working at the State Mental Hospital, Henry met 2 CONC and courted a young English convert by the name of Ann Guest Mosley. 2 CONC They were married on Thanksgiving Day, the 26th of November, 1890, in the 2 CONC Manti Temple and, following their marriage, established their first home 2 CONC in Provo. Ann, like Henry, had joined the Church in England and 2 CONC emigrated to America while a young woman of 22. Unfortunately, the day 2 CONC of their marriage was very cold and the trip to Manti had to be made in a 2 CONC buggy. To keep her warm, Henry wrapped his bride-to-be in quilts and 2 CONC placed hot rocks at her feet. He then ran behind the buggy all the way 2 CONC from Provo to Manti in order to keep himself warm. 2 CONT They had one child born to them, Wilfred Henry Williams, who was born on 2 CONC the 27th day of September, 1896, in Provo, Utah. Ten years later, they 2 CONC took into their home, but never legally adopted, a baby girl named Mary 2 CONC Verona (last name unknown). They raised her to adulthood and treated her 2 CONC like she was their own daughter. She was later married and divorced four 2 CONC separate times and moved to Long Beach, California, where she raised her 2 CONC three sons, Neil Edison Allgood, Marvin Dale Walton, and Franklin Bascom 2 CONC Morris. 2 CONT When Wilfred was three weeks old, Henry drove his family down to main 2 CONC street in Provo in order to transact some business. His wife and new 2 CONC baby remained in the buggy. Henry had recently purchased the horse and 2 CONC buggy, and this was their first trip with the new horse and conveyance. 2 CONC Unknown to him, the horse was allergic to Indians, and when the horse 2 CONC smelled an Indian walking down Provo's main street, he bolted. Around 2 CONC the block he ran with his wife trying to stop the horse and hold her 2 CONC infant son at the same time. By the time the original starting place was 2 CONC reached, she was able to stop the horse and avoid injury. However, Henry 2 CONC never could trust the horse again and soon traded him for a fine looking 2 CONC buckskin. But, this horse also proved to be a problem. He put the new 2 CONC horse in the coral with one other horse and several cows. The next 2 CONC morning the coral bars were down and all the animals were missing. They 2 CONC were located in an alfalfa field across from Springville's Evergreen 2 CONC Cemetery. The gate was open there, too. When this happened again the 2 CONC next night, Henry suspected that his new horse was the guilty party. 2 CONC Accordingly, he set up a watch on the horse and soon discovered that the 2 CONC buckskin would take the pole bars in its teeth and slide them out of 2 CONC their sockets, dropping them one by one on the ground. When Henry hooked 2 CONC the buckskin onto the buggy, the horse balked and wouldn't pull the 2 CONC buggy. Henry finally traded the horse for a barrel of suckers (fish). 2 CONT When Wilfred was about two years old, Henry signed up for some land to 2 CONC homestead on the eastern slopes of Mount Nebo, south of Thistle, Utah. 2 CONC He worked all one summer to improve the land, including the clearing of 2 CONC ten acres, the cutting of cedar posts, and the building of a barb wire 2 CONC fence around it. He also dug a ditch around the mountainside for one 2 CONC mile in order to get water onto his land. At the end of the summer, when 2 CONC he returned to Springville, he learned that Will Knight, a wealthy and 2 CONC influential man of Provo, had previously acquired the land he had been 2 CONC improving and that he, Henry, had no legal claim to it. The error had 2 CONC occurred because the recording of homestead lands at that time was 2 CONC carelessly done and the land records had not been kept up to date. As a 2 CONC result, Henry had to vacate the land and turn over his improvements to 2 CONC Mr. Knight. 2 CONT Following this disappointment, the small family moved to Springville, 2 CONC Utah, where they lived with his mother and step-father James Brailsford. 2 CONC His father, John Williams, had died several years earlier, and his mother 2 CONC had remarried. After the death of his mother, in 1901, he and Ann took 2 CONC care of James Brailsford until he died. Then, in 1920, following 2 CONC Wilfred's marriage to Mary Ardell Fullmer, Henry and Ann moved to Salt 2 CONC Lake City, Utah. Until then, Henry worked as the Water Superintendent 2 CONC for Springville City and was responsible for planning and installing much 2 CONC of the water system in use by the City today. 2 CONT During their Salt Lake City years, which included the great depression 2 CONC period of the 1930's, Henry and Ann occupied a small home on the west 2 CONC side of Salt Lake City, located at 980 West 6th South, in the Stake 2 CONC presided over by Harold B. Lee. It proved to be a difficult period for 2 CONC the Stake inasmuch as there was little work for the men to do and money 2 CONC was scarce. Fortunately, his Stake, under President Lee's leadership, 2 CONC implemented the forerunner of the Church Welfare System, which enabled 2 CONC him and Ann to survive the depression years. 2 CONT Henry had been a hard worker all of his life and the inactivity forced on 2 CONC him by retirement was difficult for him to accept. It wasn't until after 2 CONC his wife died, in 1945, that this changed. Widowed, and in the later 2 CONC years of his life (he was 80 years old at the time), he moved to 2 CONC Bountiful, Utah, to live with his son, Wilfred, and his family. The 2 CONC following 12-year period proved to be a choice opportunity for him to 2 CONC become better acquainted with his grandchildren, especially with his 2 CONC three grandsons, who were all living at home when he first arrived. For 2 CONC most of those years, he was able to plant and care for a vegetable garden 2 CONC and a small fruit orchard, and assist with a variety of family work 2 CONC projects. On one of these, when he was about 85 years old, he helped his 2 CONC two grandsons, Clyde and Kay, dig a 15 foot deep drainage sump in the 2 CONC Williams' back yard so that the drain in the basement wash room would 2 CONC work and the weekly wash water would no longer have to be carted in tubs 2 CONC up the stairs and dumped in the back yard. The astonishing thing is that 2 CONC he could and did nearly outwork both of his grandsons who found it a 2 CONC challenge to keep up with his pace. 2 CONT Later, after Kay married Bonnie Plummer, Henry would frequently spend a 2 CONC weekend with Kay and Bonnie in their home in Provo, Utah. While living 2 CONC at Bountiful, he would often be visited by them, or by Clyde and Anna and 2 CONC their family, Vada and George and their family, or Dora and Waldo and 2 CONC their family, all of whom lived in Utah. One Sunday, when he was over 90 2 CONC years of age and had attended Church services with Kay and Bonnie, he 2 CONC asked them the name of the "old man" (a Brother Johnson) he had met at 2 CONC church that morning, not considering the fact that he was, himself, older 2 CONC than the "old man" in question. 2 CONT Henry died in his 93rd year, on 13 May 1957, from pneumonia, while 2 CONC staying at a rest home in Salt Lake City. He was active in the Church 2 CONC all his life, holding the priesthood office of High Priest. He was a man 2 CONC of integrity, a respected citizen, and a man who loved to work. 1 CHAN 2 DATE 3 JAN 2002 3 TIME 17:29:53 1 OBJE 2 FORM jpg 2 FILE Williams\williams_henry.jpg 2 TITL 2 NOTE 2 _SCBK Y 2 _PRIM Y 2 _TYPE PHOTO 2 _SSHOW Y 3 _STIME 0.0 1 OBJE 2 FORM jpg 2 FILE Williams\williams_henry_text.jpg 2 TITL history 2 NOTE 2 _SCBK Y 2 _PRIM N 2 _TYPE PHOTO 2 _SSHOW Y 3 _STIME 0.0 0 @I66@ INDI 1 NAME Ann Guest /Mosley/ 1 SEX F 1 BIRT 2 DATE 9 JUL 1865 2 PLAC Birdwell,Yorkshire,Eng.,England 1 DEAT 2 DATE 15 MAR 1945 2 PLAC Salt Lake City,S.L.,UT 1 BURI 2 PLAC Provo City Cemet,Provo,Utah,UT 1 AFN 1MGZ-LV 1 BAPL 2 DATE 10 SEP 1887 1 ENDL 2 DATE 12 MAR 1890 1 FAMS @F18@ 1 FAMC @F23@ 1 SLGC 2 FAMC @F23@ 2 DATE 13 MAR 1890 2 TEMP M 1 NOTE BIOGRAPHY: Biography by W.K. She had an infectious humor that delighted her 2 CONC grandchildren and endeared her to most everyone she met. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: Ann was born 9 July 1865 in Birdwell, Yorkshire, England, 2 CONC which is located a few miles outside Sheffield, England. She was the 9th 2 CONC of 10 children born to Thomas and Sarah Guest Mosley. The other children 2 CONC included John Guest, William Francis, Arthur Thomas, Harriet Elizabeth, 2 CONC Mary Francis (Woffinden), Albert Henry, Sarah Annie (Powell), Alice 2 CONC Louisa, and Elizabeth Eva (Shepherd). 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: In the year 1865, an epidemic of scarlet fever swept England 2 CONC and four of the children contracted the disease. Three of them died 2 CONC within a three week period, namely, Arthur Thomas, Harriet Elizabeth, and 2 CONC Albert Henry. Sara Annie also took sick and was given up for dead, but 2 CONC finally recovered. A few years later, Elizabeth Eva contracted the 2 CONC disease and was left with a restricted throat passage. Fortunately, Ann 2 CONC Guest did not come down with scarlet fever, but she later suffered a 2 CONC ruptured appendix and spent nine months in bed recovering from the 2 CONC ailment. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: Ann's mother, Sarah Guest Mosley, died January 23, 1885 as a 2 CONC result of injuries received when falling from a ladder while cleaning 2 CONC windows. She was 58 at the time of her death. Ann was 19. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: Ann joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 2 CONC 10 September 1887, It so happened that Ann's father, Thomas Mosley, 2 CONC when a young man, had witnessed a soap box debate on "Mormonism" between 2 CONC a Mormon Elder and a Mr. Jarman, a notorious Mormon hater. Mosley had 2 CONC felt sorry for the Mormon Elder and had purchased a Book of Mormon from 2 CONC him. Thus, when Mormon missionaries appeared on the Mosley doorstep in 2 CONC 1887, they were invited into the house and an appointment made to discuss 2 CONC the gospel. At that time, the Mosley family were all staunch members of 2 CONC the Church of England, and Thomas and the surviving children were waiting 2 CONC with their bibles in their laps when the Mormon missionaries arrived. 2 CONC They wanted to make sure that all teaching came from the same source and 2 CONC not from the "Mormon Bible" (i.e., the Book of Mormon) of which they had 2 CONC been told. It was only a short time and they were all converted to the 2 CONC Church. However, sentiment against the Mormons was very strong at that 2 CONC time and it was necessary that each member of the family proceed to the 2 CONC baptismal stream separately, and by different routes, so as to avoid mobs 2 CONC and possible violence. Ann was 22 years old when she joined the Church. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: The following year, the Mosley family decided to emigrate to 2 CONC Utah. Ann's father turned his property over to his daughter, Alice 2 CONC Louise Mosley, and the bulk of the family sailed for America, then 2 CONC traveled by rail to Salt Lake City, Utah. Alice Louisa Mosley remained 2 CONC in England together with William Francis Mosley, who later emigrated to 2 CONC Australia with his two sons, William Mosley and Wilfred Henry Mosley (for 2 CONC whom Wilfred Henry Williams was later named). Those emigrating to Utah 2 CONC included the father, Thomas, and the other four Mosley girls, Mary 2 CONC Francis, Sarah Annie, Ann Guest, and Elizabeth Eva, together with Mary 2 CONC Francis' husband (John Woffinden) and their four children. Ann had a 2 CONC close relationship with her sisters and stayed in contact with them 2 CONC throughout her life. They often visited each other in their later 2 CONC years. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: After arriving in Utah, the Mosley family settled on a 40 acre 2 CONC farm located on the Provo bench. Ann was able to obtain work at the 2 CONC Bullock farm which was situated near the Provo/Springville boundary line. 2 CONC Within a short time, she met young Henry Williams while attending a 2 CONC church outing at Saratoga. He was one year older than she. A courtship 2 CONC soon developed. Henry would walk from Provo to the Bullock farm to do 2 CONC his courting, and soon asked her to marry him. They were married in the 2 CONC Manti Temple on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 1890, when Ann was 25 2 CONC years old. Unfortunately, the day was very cold and the trip to Manti 2 CONC had to be made in a buggy. To keep her warm, Henry wrapped his 2 CONC bride-to-be in quilts and placed hot rocks at her feet. He then ran 2 CONC behind the buggy all the way to Manti in order to keep himself warm. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: Following their marriage, Ann and her new husband moved into a 2 CONC home that Henry had previously purchased on the corner of 3rd North and 2 CONC 3rd East in Provo. Six years later, on 27 September 1896, Ann gave birth 2 CONC to her first, and only, son, Wilfred Henry Williams. When he was three 2 CONC weeks old, Ann and Henry drove to Main Street in Provo for Henry to 2 CONC transact some business. Ann and her new baby remained in the buggy. 2 CONC Henry had recently purchased the horse and buggy and this was their first 2 CONC trip with the new horse and conveyance. Unknown to them, the horse was 2 CONC allergic to Indians, and when he smelled an Indian walking down Provo's 2 CONC Main Street, he bolted. Around the block he ran with Ann trying to stop 2 CONC the horse and hold her infant at the same time. By the time the original 2 CONC starting place was reached, she was able to stop the horse and avoid 2 CONC injury. However, they never could trust the horse again and soon sold 2 CONC him. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: When Wilfred was ten years old, Ann and Henry accepted the 2 CONC responsibility of raising a second child named Mary Verona. Although 2 CONC they never legally adopted her, Ann and Henry treated her like she was 2 CONC their own daughter. As a result, Verona became a treasured part of the 2 CONC Williams household. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: Eventually, Ann and Henry, and their children, moved to 2 CONC Springville and settled, first, in the Sage Creek area of the town and, 2 CONC second, in a house on the Mapleton bench. After failing to homestead a 2 CONC farm up Crab Creek, near Thistle, Utah, Henry moved his family into the 2 CONC James Brailsford home in Springville. His mother had married James 2 CONC Brailsford, a widower, following the death of her husband, and Ann was 2 CONC called upon to care for her in-laws until their deaths in 1901 and 1904. 2 CONC Because of this, Brailsford left his log cabin home to Henry and Ann 2 CONC when he died, and they continued to live in it for a time but eventually 2 CONC sold it and purchased a house in Provo that had about three acres of 2 CONC land, which they used for a vegetable garden. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: In 1820, following the marriage of their son, Wilfred, to Mary 2 CONC Ardell Fullmer, and Henry's retirement from the position of Water 2 CONC Superintendent for Provo City, Ann and Henry moved to a small home on the 2 CONC west side of Salt Lake City. Ann was 65 years old at the time. Here, 2 CONC Ann held court for her sisters and their families, and for her son and 2 CONC his family, all of whom lived nearby. When anyone came to visit her, she 2 CONC would entertain them in her kitchen, which was in the back of the house 2 CONC but was the warmest room in the house. Her son, Wilfred, often brought 2 CONC her the leaves of a certain wild plant so that she could make them into a 2 CONC poultice and use it to help reduce the swelling in her legs. Williams: Sidney (Sid) Tanner Fullmer was the son of 2 CONC John Solomon Fullmer, Jr. and Juliette Fullmer. His parents were first 2 CONC cousins, but they had fallen in love and married in spite of the close 2 CONC relationship. John was the son of John Solomon Fullmer and Juliette was 2 CONC the daughter of David Fullmer, the two of whom had been close associates 2 CONC of the prophet Joseph Smith, Jr. Both Sid and Juliette had been raised 2 CONC in polygamous families. Sid's mother was John Solomon Fullmer's first 2 CONC wife, Mary Ann Price, and Juliette's mother was David's first wife, Sarah 2 CONC Sophronia Oysterbanks (or Oyster Banks). 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: Sidney was the fifth of seven children born to his parents. 2 CONC He was raised in a religious home and had some formal schooling before he 2 CONC was forced to leave school and go to work. Sid was a miner by trade and 2 CONC worked, first, in the Tintic mines near Eureka, Utah, and, second, Jesse 2 CONC Knight's Ironton mine just north of Springville, Utah. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: At this latter place, where he was helping to dig a mine shaft 2 CONC one mile long into the mountain to obtain water for the new Ironton 2 CONC plant, he suffered a mine accident that left him crippled for life and 2 CONC contributed to his early death. The accident occurred as he was coming 2 CONC out of the mine shaft pushing a mine car filled with rocks and dirt. 2 CONC Just as he emerged from the shaft, a large boulder rolled down the 2 CONC mountain and struck him in the back. His back and legs were broken by 2 CONC the boulder and Sid was unable to walk from that time on. His daughter 2 CONC tells of how, when he was staying with Del and Nina Fullmer, he would sit 2 CONC between the rows of the vegetable garden and struggle to pull himself 2 CONC with his hands along each row so that he could pick the beans and peas, 2 CONC or other vegetables, that were needed for the Fullmer table. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: When Sid was in his early twenties, he met and later married 2 CONC Emma Mary Larsen from Spanish Fork. Emma Mary was an attractive girl who 2 CONC had also been raised in a polygamous family. She was the daughter of 2 CONC Lars Larsen and his 3rd wife, Inger Marie Larsen. As a result, she knew 2 CONC how to work and was familiar with household chores.. They were married 2 CONC in Salt Lake City on 18 October 1899 and immediately moved to a little 2 CONC mining town called Diamond Fork, near Eureka, Utah. There, Sid toiled as 2 CONC a miner in the silver and copper mines of the Tintic Range. While they 2 CONC lived there, three children were born to them, namely, Mary Ardell, John, 2 CONC and Minnie. Unfortunately, Minnie died while still a baby but Ardell and 2 CONC John were normal, healthy children. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: Ardell was able to finish the first grade of school at the 2 CONC Eureka elementary school before the mining boom ended and the family was 2 CONC forced to return to Spanish Fork. There, Ardell and John were enrolled 2 CONC in the Spanish Fork elementary school and attended classes there and in 2 CONC Springville for several years prior to their mother's death. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: Emma Mary, Sid's wife, had contracted heart disease while 2 CONC living in the Eureka area, and her condition rapidly deteriorated 2 CONC following their move to Spanish Fork. She died 15 February 1910, in 2 CONC Spanish Fork, leaving her husband with two small children to raise. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: Immediately after his wife died, Sid moved to Salt Lake City 2 CONC and moved in with his single sister, Minnie Fullmer. Their house was 2 CONC located just east of the Sweet Candy Company. However, some other single 2 CONC women who lived nearby were frequently entertaining male friends and Sid 2 CONC did not want his children to be raised in that environment. Accordingly, 2 CONC the family relocated to Springville and moved in with his brother, 2 CONC Delbert Fullmer, and his new bride, Nina. Over the succeeding years, Del 2 CONC and Nina gave birth to 13 children of their own, in addition to having 2 CONC Sid and his two children stay with them. At one time, there were 15 2 CONC people living in the small three bedroom home, but they managed in spite 2 CONC of the crowded conditions. Del and Nina Fullmer treated Ardell and John 2 CONC as if they were their own children. As Ardell's husband described it, 2 CONC "They were awful good to them." 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: Eventually, the effects of the mine accident took its toll on 2 CONC Sid, and he died on 12 March 1919, in Springville, Utah. Ardell and John 2 CONC continued to live with the Delbert Fullmer family until early 1920, when 2 CONC Ardell left the home to be married and John left to enter the 2 CONC construction business. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: Several stories have been passed down in the family by word of 2 CONC mouth that concern Sid.. The first of these occurred a short time before 2 CONC his wife's death. At the time, Emma Mary was very, very sick and had 2 CONC been practically given up for dead by her husband and friends. Sid was 2 CONC very discouraged and heart-sick about his wife's condition and outlook. 2 CONC One night a knock came on the door and, when Sid opened it, two men stood 2 CONC outside. One of whom inquired if this was the home of Sidney Fullmer. 2 CONC Sid acknowledged that it was. The man asked if his wife was named Emma 2 CONC Mary Larsen. Again, Sid acknowledged that she was, whereupon the man 2 CONC asked if Sid would like them to administer to her. Because of his 2 CONC discouragement, Sid blurted out that it would not do any good, whereupon 2 CONC the two men excused themselves and Sid closed the door. Almost 2 CONC immediately, it dawned on him what he had said and he reopened the door, 2 CONC but the two men had disappeared. He called out to them and ran all the 2 CONC way around the house in an attempt to find them, but to no avail. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: A few days later, Mary Emma died. Reflecting on the 2 CONC experience, Sid was convinced that his late night visitors were two of 2 CONC the three Nephites who had been blessed by the Savior to continue to live 2 CONC on the earth until His second coming. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: The second story occurred about two years after Emma Mary's 2 CONC death. By this time, Sid and his two children had moved in with Del and 2 CONC Nina Fullmer, and their family, in Springville. One evening, Del went 2 CONC upstairs to bed somewhat earlier than usual. He was sitting up in his 2 CONC bed when his wife, Emma Mary, appeared to him in a vision. Appearing in 2 CONC one corner of the room was an image that represented wealth and riches 2 CONC while in the other corner of the room appeared his deceased daughter, 2 CONC Minnie. His wife addressed him, saying "Sid, which would you rather 2 CONC have? Riches, or your daughter, Minnie?" He replied, "Why, Minnie, of 2 CONC course!". Emma Mary then said, "Then you know what you must do to have 2 CONC her." The vision immediately closed, and Sid went back downstairs and 2 CONC related the vision to Del and Nina. The next morning he hitched Del's 2 CONC horses to the wagon and traveled with his family to Salt Lake City, where 2 CONC he and his wife and children were sealed to each other. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: Sidney Tanner Fullmer was a handsome man and worked hard to 2 CONC provide for his family. He faced a host of challenges during his adult 2 CONC life, but he endured them well and left a wonderful legacy for his 2 CONC descendants. 1 CHAN 2 DATE 5 JAN 2002 3 TIME 22:45:55 1 OBJE 2 FORM jpg 2 FILE Williams\fullmer_sidneytanner.jpg 2 TITL 2 NOTE 2 _SCBK Y 2 _PRIM Y 2 _TYPE PHOTO 2 _SSHOW Y 3 _STIME 0.0 0 @I68@ INDI 1 NAME Emma Mary /Larsen/ 2 _MARNM Fullmer 1 SEX F 1 BIRT 2 DATE 10 JAN 1879 2 PLAC Spanish Fork,Utah,Utah 1 DEAT 2 DATE 15 FEB 1910 2 PLAC Springville,Utah,UT 2 CAUS Heart Disease 1 BURI 2 DATE 18 FEB 1910 2 PLAC Spanish Fork Cem,Spanish Fork,Utah,UT 1 AFN 51WZ-62 1 BAPL 2 DATE 7 JUL 1887 2 PLAC 1 ENDL 2 DATE 29 JUN 1911 1 FAMS @F19@ 1 FAMC @F303@ 1 SLGC 2 FAMC @F303@ 2 STAT BIC 1 NOTE BIOGRAPHY: Emma Mary Larsen was the daughter of Lars Larsen and his 3rd 2 CONC wife, Inger Marie Hansen. He was an engine 2 CONC fitter by trade, one of the very best in old England. He used to have to 2 CONC go even as far as Dublin from Manchester City and Oldham. 2 CONT Mother had been converted to the gospel through Brigham Young when 2 CONC she was fifteen years old. at the age of twenty-four she was married to 2 CONC my father. (Through the cruelty of her step-father, mother had been 2 CONC driven into an earlier marriage at the age of seventeen.) 2 CONT Father was not affiliated with the L.D.S. Church and did not join 2 CONC until a few years before he died. He did not require us to attend any 2 CONC church in particular. Naturally we followed mother and joined the church. 2 CONT When I was eighteen years old, mother consented that I emigrate to 2 CONC Utah. I sailed in the steamboat Wisconsin leaving England July 10, 1880. 2 CONC There was a number of LDS missionareies on our boat along with three 2 CONC thousand emigrants. I arrived in Provo July 31, 1881 and went to work at 2 CONC the Provo Woolen Mills. 2 CONT When I had been in Utah eight months I made a visit to President John 2 CONC Taylor of the LDS Church. He was in his office in the Beehive House. 2 CONT "President Taylor, I came here in July 1880 for the purpose of 2 CONC helping to emigrate my parents from Oldham, Lancashire, England. I have 2 CONC eighty-five dollars ready to send back. Will you lend me sixty more 2 CONC dollars so that mother can come in the first company in April 1881?" 2 CONT He replied, "Yes, I'll loan you twice the sixty dollars if you want 2 CONC it." 2 CONT On the day set for the immigrant train I went to Bountiful to meet my 2 CONC parents and brother. I took my folks to a home I had rented in Provo, one 2 CONC room and a shanty. The shanty had been a coal-house but I scrubbed the 2 CONC walls and put a bed in it. For the main room I had secured a little two 2 CONC lid stove. I also had eighteen dollars saved up. My mother also had some 2 CONC savings. Together we went down to Taylor Brothers and bought some things 2 CONC with which to keep house. 2 CONT Working together my father and brother Henry and I soon paid up the 2 CONC sixty dollars that I had borrowed from President Taylor. Things went on 2 CONC smoothly for us and we were soon in a better home." 2 CONT After the death of John Williams in 1891, Mary Goddard Williams 2 CONC married James Brailsford. They had a very happy life together. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: By W.K. Williams: John Williams was born 25 June 1827 in 2 CONC Oldham, Lancashire, England, the oldest of three children born to William 2 CONC Edward Williams and Dianna Forest. He also had an adopted brother who 2 CONC was several years younger than him. He was reared in the Manchester and 2 CONC Oldham area and continued to live there after he became an adult. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: John was a small man - only a little over 5 feet tall - but 2 CONC always dressed like he had stepped out of a bandbox. He was a very well 2 CONC educated man for his time, as were his two sisters. He served an 2 CONC apprenticeship as an engine-fitter and became recognized as one of the 2 CONC very best master mechanics in all of England. Because of his skill, he 2 CONC was frequently called upon to travel to Scotland, Ireland, France, and 2 CONC other places on the continent to perform his trade. As a result, 2 CONC traveling seemed to get into his blood and for his entire life he enjoyed 2 CONC going places and seeing new things. It was quite common for him to be 2 CONC gone for several days or weeks, then come home dressed in his finest with 2 CONC a flower in his button-hole. He would march into the house as if he had 2 CONC merely been to the corner store for a few minutes. His wife, 2 CONC fortunately, was a fine, patient woman and put up with his wandering 2 CONC ways. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: When he was 26 years old, John met and married 24 year old 2 CONC Mary Goddard in the Winters Chapel at Oldham, England. Mary, when she 2 CONC was only 17, had been pressured into an unfortunate marriage by her 2 CONC step-father but had since been released from this marriage and was free 2 CONC to marry John. When she was 15, Mary had been converted by Brigham 2 CONC Young and had joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. 2 CONC She was a faithful member all her life. Although John did not join the 2 CONC Church until 1884 after the family had emigrated to Utah - apparently due 2 CONC to a drinking problem - he nevertheless supported his wife in her 2 CONC religious convictions and permitted his children to attend church 2 CONC services with their mother. As a result, both Emily and Henry were 2 CONC baptized into the LDS faith while they were children. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: John and Mary moved several times in the early years of their 2 CONC married life but eventually purchased a six room brick home in Burton 2 CONC Head, near Liverpool, where they raised most of their family. Later, 2 CONC they relocated to Oldham. Six children were born of their union, namely, 2 CONC William Edward, John, Diana, Emily, Henry, and George. Diana later died 2 CONC of scarlet fever. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: All the children learned a trade and all of them worked. Each 2 CONC child was required to bring his or her earnings home and give it to their 2 CONC mother, who then gave them a small allowance. One of the children - 2 CONC William Edward - became an accomplished musician and violinist. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: During this period, the family had to endure significant 2 CONC anti-Mormon pressure. Apparently, his step-brother, William Edward 2 CONC Williams, joined the Church and eventually emigrated to Utah, because he 2 CONC is buried in the Provo City Cemetery, but neither of his sisters accepted 2 CONC the gospel, as far as can be determined. For some time, the Church 2 CONC leaders had been encouraging the Church members in England to emigrate to 2 CONC Zion, in Utah and the Williams family responded to the call. In 1880, 2 CONC their daughter Emily sailed for America aboard the steamboat "Wisconsin" 2 CONC along with 3,000 other emigrants. She had promised to save her money and 2 CONC send for her mother within ten months. At the end of this period, she 2 CONC had saved 85 dollars but needed another 60 dollars to secure passage for 2 CONC her parents and her brother, Henry. Taking her courage in hand, she 2 CONC asked President John Taylor to loan her the sixty dollars, which he did, 2 CONC thereby enabling her parents and brother to emigrate to Utah. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: The family left Liverpool on a half sail/half steam ship in 2 CONC the year 1881. During the ocean voyage, a heavy storm broke the drive 2 CONC shaft and the ship drifted two hundred miles back towards England before 2 CONC the shaft was repaired. The ship was badly tossed about in the turbulent 2 CONC waters with the result that the Captain ordered that the passengers be 2 CONC securely tied to their bunks so as to help protect them from injury. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: The ship finally landed in New York City and the Williams 2 CONC family boarded a train for the West. Somewhere around Kansas, their 2 CONC money ran out. After pooling their cash, it was found that one member of 2 CONC the family would have to leave the train. John volunteered to do so, but 2 CONC the missionaries who were accompanying them took up a collection from the 2 CONC other passengers and collected enough money to pay his fare to Ogden, 2 CONC Utah. They were met in Utah by Emily, who boarded their train in Woods 2 CONC Cross (i.e., West Bountiful) so that she could travel the remaining ten 2 CONC miles with them into Salt Lake City. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: John and Henry soon got employment in the Utah Woolen Mills in 2 CONC Provo, Utah, where Emily had previously worked, and the family settled in 2 CONC the Provo area. About three years after arriving in Utah, John finally 2 CONC accepted the gospel and was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus 2 CONC Christ of Latter-day Saints but did not receive his temple ordinances. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: John died 23 July 1891 and was buried in the Provo City 2 CONC Cemetery. Following his death, his wife, Mary, remarried and was sealed 2 CONC to James Brailsford in the Salt Lake Temple. However, eleven years after 2 CONC her death, the two member children, Emily and Henry, sought and obtained 2 CONC a cancellation of sealing from President Heber J. Grant and, on 19 2 CONC December 1934, performed the temple work for John Williams and Mary 2 CONC Goddard, and for their six children, and had the parents and family 2 CONC sealed together. 1 CHAN 2 DATE 5 JAN 2002 3 TIME 23:37:09 0 @I74@ INDI 1 NAME Mary /Goddard/ 1 SEX F 1 BIRT 2 DATE 24 AUG 1831 2 PLAC Oldham,Lncstr,England,England 1 DEAT 2 DATE 15 MAY 1901 2 PLAC Springville,Utah,UT 1 BURI 2 PLAC Springville,Utah,Utah,Evergreen Cem 1 AFN 335Z-10 1 BAPL 2 DATE 16 APR 1889 1 ENDL 2 DATE 17 APR 1889 1 FAMS @F22@ 1 FAMS @F61@ 1 FAMC @F66@ 1 NOTE Mary Goddard remarried in 1892 to James Brailsford. When she was 24 years old, 2 CONC she met and married 26 year-old John Williams in the Winters Chapel at 2 CONC Oldham, England. At the time, John was not a member of the LDS Church 2 CONC whereas Mary was a faithful member all her life. He nevertheless 2 CONC supported his wife in her religious convictions and permitted his 2 CONC children to attend church services with their mother. As a result, two 2 CONC of their children - Emily and Henry - were baptized into the LDS faith 2 CONC while in their youth Their father, John, and older brother, William 2 CONC Edward, finally did join the Church, but not until about 1884 after the 2 CONC family had emigrated to Utah. Diana later died 2 CONC of scarlet fever and George died when he was about two years old. As 2 CONC indicated above, William Edward, their oldest son, joined the Church in 2 CONC Utah but no record has been found that their second son, John, was ever 2 CONC baptized. Nevertheless, his temple work was done after his death. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: When the Church leaders encouraged the Church members in 2 CONC England to emigrate to Zion (i.e., Utah), Mary and her family responded 2 CONC to the call. Mary's daughter, Emily, was the first member of the family 2 CONC to set sail for America, traveling aboard the steamboat "Wisconsin" in 2 CONC the year 1880 along with 3,000 other emigrants. When Emily boarded the 2 CONC ship, Mary fainted and was carried to the tug-boat by two missionaries so 2 CONC that she could be returned to shore. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: True to a promise made to her mother, Emily saved her money 2 CONC and sent for the other members of the family within ten months after 2 CONC arriving in Utah. Thus, in the year 1881, the remainder of the Williams 2 CONC family - consisting of John, Mary, William Edward and Henry - left 2 CONC Liverpool on a half sail/half steam ship. Their son, John Williams, 2 CONC remained in England. During the ocean voyage, a heavy storm broke the 2 CONC drive shaft and the ship drifted two hundred miles back towards England 2 CONC before the shaft was repaired. The ship was badly tossed about in the 2 CONC turbulent waters with the result that the Captain ordered that the 2 CONC passengers be securely tied to their bunks so as to help protect them 2 CONC from injury. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: The ship finally landed in New York City and the family 2 CONC boarded a train for the West. Some-where around Kansas, their money ran 2 CONC out. After pooling their cash, it was found that one member of the 2 CONC family would have to leave the train. John, the father, volunteered to 2 CONC do so but the missionaries who were accompanying them took up a 2 CONC collection from the other passengers and collected enough money to pay 2 CONC his fare to Ogden, Utah. They were met in Utah by Emily, who boarded 2 CONC their train in Woods Cross so that she could travel the remaining ten 2 CONC miles with them into Salt Lake City. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: John and his sons soon got employment in the Utah Woolen Mills 2 CONC in Provo, Utah, where Emily had previously worked, and the family settled 2 CONC in the Provo area. About three years after arriving in Utah, John 2 CONC finally accepted the gospel and was baptized a member of The Church of 2 CONC Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints but did not receive his temple 2 CONC ordinances until after his death. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: Mary's Patriarchal Blessing, which she received in 1880 by 2 CONC Zebadee Coltrin, states that she "was called and chosen before of the 2 CONC Lord, before the foundations of the Earth were layed. For to come forth 2 CONC in this dispensation to assist and bring forth a righteous branch before 2 CONC the Lord, for thou shall become a mother of a mighty people. And the 2 CONC Holy Priesthood shall rest down upon them throughout all their 2 CONC generations. And thy sons shall be mighty men before the Lord. And many 2 CONC of them shall become Kings and Priests of the Most High, and shall become 2 CONC a mighty people and dwell in the midst of Zion." 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: The blessing further stated that "the spirit of prophecy shall 2 CONC rest down upon thee and the Angels of the Lord shall minister unto thee. 2 CONC For thou shall be filled with the wisdom of the Heavens. And shall be 2 CONC clothed about as with a garment and shall be wrapt in the visions of the 2 CONC Heavens." 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: In the last few years of her life, her grandson (Wilfred Henry 2 CONC Williams) remembered her talking in tongues in the old Springville 1st 2 CONC Ward. He was only five years old at the time, but he remembered for the 2 CONC rest of his life where she was sitting, where he was sitting, and where 2 CONC the man that interpreted her words was sitting. William Ostler 2 CONC interpreted her speaking in tongues the first time this occurred. The 2 CONC second time she spoke in tongues, it was not interpreted until Fast Day, 2 CONC one month later. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: Following John's death in 1891, Mary remarried. It is 2 CONC significant that her Patriarchal Blessing had also stated that "thou 2 CONC shall obtain to all the blessings and sealing powers that shall be given 2 CONC in the holy temple of the Lord" and she had been unable to obtain these 2 CONC blessings while married to John Williams. Accordingly, she married and 2 CONC was sealed to James Brailsford in the Salt Lake Temple about two years 2 CONC after John died. However, some years following her own death, her 2 CONC daughter Emily sought and obtained a cancellation of sealing from 2 CONC President Heber J. Grant. On 19 December 1934, she and her brother 2 CONC Henry performed the temple work for John Williams and Mary Goddard, and 2 CONC for their six children, including having the parents and family sealed 2 CONC together.. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: Mary Goddard Williams Brailsford died on 15 March 1901, in 2 CONC Spanish Fork, Utah. She is buried in the Brailsford plot in the Spanish 2 CONC Fork Cemetery. 1 CHAN 2 DATE 5 JAN 2002 3 TIME 22:26:09 0 @I75@ INDI 1 NAME Thomas /Mosley/ 1 SEX M 1 BIRT 2 DATE 10 SEP 1822 2 PLAC Tankersley,Yorks,England,England 1 CHR 2 DATE 6 OCT 1822 2 PLAC Tankersley,Yorks,England 1 DEAT 2 DATE 15 OCT 1898 2 PLAC Provo,Utah,UT 1 BURI 2 DATE 18 OCT 1898 2 PLAC Provo City Cemet 1 AFN 1MGX-ZM 1 BAPL 2 DATE 10 SEP 1887 1 ENDL 2 DATE 12 MAR 1890 1 FAMS @F23@ 1 FAMC @F74@ 1 SLGC 2 FAMC @F74@ 2 DATE 20 AUG 1981 2 TEMP WA 1 NOTE Thomas Mosley was born September 10, 1822 at Tankersly, Yorkshire, 2 CONC England. When he was a young man he went to London and on a street corner 2 CONC heard a young Mormon missionary and a Mr. Jarman, who was a Mormon hater, 2 CONC having a debate on Mormonism. Feeling sorry for the young missionary, he 2 CONC bought a Book of Mormon from him. Later he married Sarah Guest and 2 CONC settled in Birdwell which is a few miles from Sheffield, England. 2 CONT He worked in the Colliery nearby and operated the machinery that 2 CONC brought out the loeaded coal cars from the mine shaft. 2 CONT One day the Mormon missionaries came and Thomas remembered the 2 CONC incident in London. His family belonged to the Church of England and when 2 CONC converted to Mormonism, the sentiment against the Mormons was so strong 2 CONC that it was necessary that each member of the family go to the baptismal 2 CONC stream separately to avoid mobs and possible violence. 2 CONT Sarah Guest Mosley some years before they joined the Church had 2 CONC fallen while cleaning windows, and the injury led to her death. Thomas 2 CONC Mosley came to Utah with his four daughters in May 1888. He purchased a 2 CONC piece of land on Provo Bench and deeded 10 acres to each of his four 2 CONC daughters. His son-in-law, John Woffinden, ran the farm and Thomas lived 2 CONC with he and his wife, Mary Frances, until he died in 1898. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: By W.K. Williams: Thomas Mosley was born in Tankersley, 2 CONC Yorkshire, England, on 10 September 1822, the son of Richard Mosley and 2 CONC Harriet Hague. He was born into a family that consisted of the parents 2 CONC and three other children, namely, George Mosley, Matthew Burgan and 2 CONC William Mosley. The two oldest children were half brothers who had been 2 CONC born to his mother when she was married, first, to Richard Mosley (an 2 CONC older brother of Thomas Mosley) and, second, to Richard Burgan, both of 2 CONC whom had died. Later, Thomas, Sarah, Joseph, Ann, Francis, and Harriet 2 CONC were born to Richard and Harriet, making a household of eleven persons. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: Thomas grew up in Tankersley and started working as a youth at 2 CONC the nearby colliery where he eventually operated the machinery that 2 CONC brought out the loaded coal cars from the mine shaft. This was a 2 CONC specially critical job and required that he be present at work on his 2 CONC appointed shifts. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: When he was a young man, he went to London and passed a street 2 CONC corner where a young Mormon missionary was engaged in a debate on 2 CONC "Mormonism" with a Mr. Jarman. He was a Mormon-hater and went out of his 2 CONC way to belittle and embarrass the Mormon missionaries and the Church. A 2 CONC large crowd had assembled and Thomas stopped to listen. Hearing the 2 CONC one-sidedness of the debate, and observing the actions of the crowd in 2 CONC heckling the missionaries, asking questions of them without giving them 2 CONC time to answer, and sometimes throwing stones at them, Thomas felt sorry 2 CONC for the young missionaries and bought a Book of Mormon from them. Some 2 CONC years later, this incident proved to be a turning point in his life as it 2 CONC led to Thomas and four of his children joining the Church. 2 CONC Unfortunately, his wife, Sarah, was a devout member of the Church of 2 CONC England and would not accept any other faith. After they were married, 2 CONC she often encouraged her husband to attend church with her but he knew 2 CONC that her religion was not true and declined to go with her. It was about 2 CONC this time that the Book of Mormon, which he had kept around the house, 2 CONC disappeared. Thomas never knew what became of it, but he had his 2 CONC suspicions. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: It was shortly after the above missionary incident that Thomas 2 CONC met his future wife, Sarah Guest. They were married on 9 January 1849 2 CONC and settled in Birdwell, which is a few miles from Sheffield, England. 2 CONC At the time of their marriage, Thomas was 26 years old and Sarah was 22. 2 CONC Thomas continued to work at the mine while ten children were born to 2 CONC them. They included John Guest, William Francis, Arthur Thomas, Harriet 2 CONC Elizabeth, Mary Frances, Albert Henry, Sara Annie, Alice Louise, Ann 2 CONC Guest, and Elizabeth Eva. Later, after the death of his father, Richard 2 CONC Mosley, in 1863, Thomas and Sarah had his mother come live with them. 2 CONC She spent the next eight years with the Thomas Mosley family until her 2 CONC death in 1871, at the age of 78. She said that she chose to live with 2 CONC Thomas and Sarah because they were the kindest and most understanding of 2 CONC all her children. She was also a kind and understanding person herself 2 CONC and left a sweet influence on the lives of the surviving Mosley children. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: While their family was still young, Thomas and Sarah were 2 CONC faced with a severe crisis when an epidemic of scarlet fever swept over 2 CONC the land.. Arthur Thomas and Harriet Elizabeth both contracted the 2 CONC disease and died within two weeks of each other, during the first part of 2 CONC November 1865. Then, one day after Harriet Elizabeth's death, Albert 2 CONC Henry, age 6, passed away from the same ailment. A fourth child, Sarah 2 CONC Annie, then 4 years of age, was also afflicted by the dread disease and 2 CONC was not expected to live. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: The community responded to the epidemic by passing quarantine 2 CONC laws which required Thomas to live away from his family; nevertheless, he 2 CONC would come to the gate of his house each evening after his work and 2 CONC inquire about the welfare of his children. He was very concerned and 2 CONC fearful about losing any of his family and the deaths of three of his 2 CONC children were particularly hard on him. Nevertheless, he tried to do 2 CONC everything that was possible but had to keep his job so that he could 2 CONC provide for the other children. Each night he would stop at the garden 2 CONC gate, where his wife would meet him, and he would ask "Are there any 2 CONC others gone?" Three times his lovely, patient wife informed him that one 2 CONC of his children had died. Then she informed him that Sarah Annie was in 2 CONC a serious condition with the same dread disease and was not expected to 2 CONC live until morning. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: The following day, he returned again after providing help for 2 CONC his wife and asked "Are there any others gone?', feeling sure that Sarah 2 CONC Annie could not have lived through the night in such a critical condition 2 CONC and with such a high fever. However, his family had discovered that she 2 CONC was still alive by placing a mirror close to her mouth and noticing the 2 CONC vapor left on the mirror by her breath. When informed that she was still 2 CONC alive, Thomas declared that there was a kind Heavenly Father who had 2 CONC heard their prayers in her behalf, since the family was a faithful and 2 CONC praying family. However, he did not realize that her life had been 2 CONC spared so that she could have an influence in the future on an important 2 CONC part of his and his children's lives. Sarah Annie became deaf as a 2 CONC result of the fever but grew to be a patient, lovely daughter who took 2 CONC care of her parents in the years preceding their deaths. Later, in 1872, 2 CONC the eldest son, John Guest, died of Typhoid Fever at the age of 22, 2 CONC reducing the number of children in the family still living to six. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: Sometime after this, the family moved to Priest Royd Nook, 2 CONC Birdwell, which was near Barnsley, Yorkshire, England. The house was 2 CONC called Beach Cottage and consisted of a large rock and mortar two-story 2 CONC dwelling with a lot of windows and rooms on both levels. It also 2 CONC included a basement and was organized in a manner similar to a duplex. 2 CONC Thomas and his brother-in-law, George Guest, jointly owned one half of 2 CONC the house. There was a lovely high hedge around the garden and front of 2 CONC the yard, with a variety of fruit trees and berries in the back yard. 2 CONC Flowers of every hue and description bloomed beautifully under the tender 2 CONC care of Thomas' wife, Sarah. She took pride in their home, inside and 2 CONC out, and took good care of it. She also took care of their two mothers, 2 CONC who both lived with them for a time. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: When his wife, Sarah, passed away in 1885, Thomas was so 2 CONC grief-stricken that his health broke and he was taken to a hospital to 2 CONC recover from several strokes. These left him afflicted with deafness, 2 CONC very poor eyesight, and a speech impediment. For the rest of his life, 2 CONC he was subject to having a series of small strokes which left him in poor 2 CONC health. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: Then, an important event happened. His eldest daughter, Mary 2 CONC Francis married John Woffinden and moved to Hoyland Common, where they 2 CONC heard the gospel preached by some Mormon Elders. After investigating, 2 CONC they were converted and joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day 2 CONC Saints. They then learned about the incident where Thomas, had purchased 2 CONC a Book of Mormon from some Mormon missionaries in London when he was a 2 CONC young man, and they promptly arranged for the missionaries to call on 2 CONC him. His health improved after several priesthood blessings given him by 2 CONC Elders Roberts and Bramwell and he and his three other daughters were 2 CONC soon baptized. In order to avoid being stoned to death by the bitter 2 CONC mobs that were causing so much persecution of the "Mormons" - primarily 2 CONC due to the urging of the Church of England ministers - they were forced 2 CONC to travel in the middle of the night to the place of baptism, which took 2 CONC place in a nearby canal around 2:30 AM. Their baptisms were recorded in 2 CONC connection with the Sheffield Conference of the Church. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: Because of the persecution, the family soon began making 2 CONC preparations to emigrate to Utah. Thomas' health was so poor that the 2 CONC doctors warned him that he would not survive the sea voyage if he were to 2 CONC try to emigrate. His pension was cut off by his employers and he was 2 CONC promised a large increase in pension if he would renounce 'Mormonism. 2 CONC However, he placed his faith in the several blessings given him and 2 CONC believed that he would make the journey successfully. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: With the money they had saved and by selling their home and 2 CONC other possessions, they were able to set sail on the ship Wisconsin in 2 CONC 1887, arriving in New York City two weeks later. They then journeyed to 2 CONC Provo, Utah, by train. All went well! Those who made the journey 2 CONC included Thomas; his daughter Mary Francis Woffindon, her husband, and 2 CONC three children; and his other daughters, Sarah Annie, Ann Guest, and 2 CONC Elizabeth Eva. Others of the immediate and extended Mosley family 2 CONC remained in England and did not join the Church, which was a great 2 CONC disappointment to Thomas. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: Things began to improve from that point on. Almost 2 CONC immediately upon arriving in Provo, Mary Francis gave birth to another 2 CONC son. And, over time, Thomas Mosley slowly but surely regained his health 2 CONC and strength, his hearing improved, and his eyesight and speech were 2 CONC restored. Clearly, the Lord blessed him for his faithfulness and 2 CONC goodness. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: In March, 1890, Thomas and his family traveled to Manti, Utah, 2 CONC to perform ordinance work for their deceased ancestors. While in 2 CONC England, they had failed to collect the names of many of his ancestors 2 CONC who had died without a knowledge of the gospel and they were worried 2 CONC about how they were going to perform their temple work. This was of 2 CONC great concern to Thomas as he knew that some day they would accept the 2 CONC gospel. As a result, he continued to pray for guidance and assistance 2 CONC from above. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: It was at this time, while in the baptismal room of the Manti 2 CONC Temple, that he received a marvelous manifestation. The names of many of 2 CONC his ancestors - complete families in many instances - were either 2 CONC restored to his memory or passed before his eyes. As they were revealed 2 CONC to him, he repeated each name carefully and his daughters wrote the names 2 CONC on sheets of paper, with the approximate birth, marriage, and death dates 2 CONC of each individual. Later research proved these dates to be remarkably 2 CONC accurate and to match those contained in the Parish records. In one 2 CONC case, an individual was left out of their notes but further research 2 CONC showed that the person had died as an infant and did not require baptism. 2 CONC Accordingly, the person was included in the family and was sealed with 2 CONC all of the other children. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: Thomas subsequently made several other trips to the Manti 2 CONC Temple to witness the marriages of his three daughters and to do further 2 CONC temple work for his ancestors. 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: On October 15, 1898, after hoeing a patch of corn at the home 2 CONC of his daughter, Mary Francis Woffinden, where he was then staying, he 2 CONC ate a hearty meal, placed his knife, fork and spoon carefully on his 2 CONC plate, leaned back in his chair, closed his eyes, and passed peacefully 2 CONC from this life. He was 76 years old at the time. His firm testimony, 2 CONC faith, and devotion to the gospel of Jesus Christ serves as a great 2 CONC example for all of his progenitors to follow. 1 CHAN 2 DATE 5 JAN 2002 3 TIME 22:59:08 1 OBJE 2 FORM jpg 2 FILE Williams\mosley_thomas.jpg 2 TITL 2 NOTE 2 _SCBK Y 2 _PRIM Y 2 _TYPE PHOTO 2 _SSHOW Y 3 _STIME 0.0 1 OBJE 2 FORM jpg 2 FILE Williams\mosley_thomas_hist.jpg 2 TITL history 2 NOTE 2 _SCBK Y 2 _PRIM N 2 _TYPE PHOTO 2 _SSHOW Y 3 _STIME 0.0 0 @I76@ INDI 1 NAME Sarah /Guest/ 1 SEX F 1 BIRT 2 DATE 2 AUG 1826 2 PLAC Wentworth,Yorks,England,England 1 CHR 2 DATE 27 AUG 1826 2 PLAC Wentworth,Yorks,England 1 DEAT 2 DATE 23 JAN 1885 2 PLAC Tankersley,Yorks,England 1 BURI 2 DATE 27 JAN 1885 2 PLAC Tankersley Churc,Tankersley,Yorks.,England 1 AFN 1MGZ-0R 1 BAPL 2 DATE 11 MAR 1890 1 ENDL 2 DATE 13 MAR 1890 1 FAMS @F23@ 1 FAMC @F119@ 1 SLGC 2 FAMC @F119@ 2 DATE 15 JUL 1981 2 TEMP OG 1 NOTE also sealed to parents 9 Jul 1926 2 CONT 2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: By W.K.
